Another month, another heritage act we revisit from the Naim Label archives.

This month we have chosen the Bristolian Country and Soul band Phantom Limb.

The five-piece band formed in 2004 and have been described by the BBC as “a seamless amalgam of classic, late-night jazz, southern soul, country blue and gospel - intelligent music-making with impeccably high standards.” Individually, the band members work in the music industry as producer, session players and writers. They have worked with the likes of Massive Attack, Bugz in the Attic, Skin, Jazzanova, Roni Size and Andy Sheppard. They toured the eloquently accomplished sets extensively, all the way from SXSW in Texas, USA, to neighbouring festival giant, Glastonbury. Singer Yolanda was described as a “one in a generation voice and her overwhelming presence lifts Phantom Limb from a country/R&B band to one of importance”.

Yola has since released a solo EP, Orphan Offering followed by her Dan Auerback produced full-length debut, Walk Through Fire (2019, Easy Eye) - which has earned widespread critical acclaim.

Both Phantom Limb full-length records, including the live album, were released via the Naim Label.
Phantom Limb (reissued October 2009)
Live In Bristol (Released 2009)
The Pines (Released February 2012)

We’ve put all of the releases into a playlist for your listening pleasure and we’ll continue to share and explore our eclectic back catalogue in the coming months.
