We would like to share our new finds and revisits with you. Here are some highlights and insights from our October monthly playlist:

Steve Lacy

19-year-old guitarist and protege Steve Lacy graces our ears with his fresh new project titled simply ’Steve Lacy's Demo EP’ - a solo adventure after his usual collaboration with group ‘The Internet’. At only 13 minutes long, it leaves a lasting impression. The highlight track for Naim is ‘Dark Red’ which boasts throwback subtleties, the funky bass line, the strings and soulful backing vocals. And yet feels so effortlessly modern and new. Classic songwriting with a DIY presentation.

“stone cold original - an innovator, an outlier, authentically sui generis”

Annette Peacock

Described as a 'stone cold original - an innovator, an outlier, authentically sui generis', Annette Peacock started making music at only 5 years old in New York, back in 1949. ‘Survival’, a track off ‘The Perfect Release’ was released in the late 70s. Although one of her more free jazz tracks, she was a pioneer in the genres of rap and in electronic music, with her voice using the Moog synthesizer, and she’s the creator of the free-form song.

Everything Is Recorded

XL label boss and creative mentor Richard Russell grabs our attention with his new project. ‘Everything Is Recorded’ literally describes best what exactly the project is. ‘Close But Not Quite’ is a work of pure creative freedom. The best bits cleverly arranged from a jam session with some of our favourite current singers and musicians. It's not tied down to one artist, it is a network of ideas. ‘Close But Not Quite’ is built around a Curtis Mayfield sample and Sampha’s falsetto tones, delicate and uplifting.
