On board with Naim

Find out what it took to create the most immersive audio experience with Princess Yachts.

For their latest design, the S78, Princess’ development team wanted to install a ground-breaking audio system. It had to sound like nothing else in the yachting world. It had to withstand the harsh environments of the ocean. It also had to come from a British firm who shared the same manufacturing and design principles, which is why they contacted Naim.

What struck Naim engineers first was the level of detail that Princess would go to when designing a new craft. From creating bespoke furniture to using high-grade materials and finishes – just like Naim, Princess has an obsession with precision design and engineering.

“It was always about recreating the Naim home experience on the open water.”

At first the challenge seemed pretty vast. A yacht of this size comes with irregular-sized areas, restricted interiors and open-air spaces in which to project sound. So for Naim, the first stage was to send in our acoustic engineers to see exactly what we were dealing with.

After some careful analysis, we chose the Uniti range as the main system for the S78 – not only is it versatile and easy to connect to, Uniti also has a rich sound quality that perfectly matches the luxury feel of the yacht’s interior. By carefully positioning drivers and subwoofers in ceiling cavities and under furniture, our engineers were able to create incredible sonic spaces – each room or cabin enjoys audiophile quality sound in total isolation or the systems can be linked to create a truly impressive audio experience.

The end result is extraordinary – an 80ft yacht full of innovative technology, luxury finishes and now one of the highest quality audio systems ever found at sea. We’re proud to announce that the Princess S78 was successfully launched at the Düsseldorf Boat Show this January, impressing with its potential to entertain and exhilarate.

With the very first Naim system designed for Princess, the S78 looks and sounds like nothing else. And we look forward to taking everything we’ve learned from this project into the next Princess craft and beyond.
