Naim Records is thrilled to announce the debut album from songwriter, guitarist and producer Harry Jay-Steele. Boundaries is available now on vinyl – in both standard and limited blue/white spatter editions - on multiple music-streaming services, including Qobuz, Spotify and TIDAL, plus as a high-resolution download from the Naim Records store.
The long-awaited album follows acclaimed EP and single releases that saw Harry Jay-Steele named Artist of the Day in the Metro and Track of the Day in Clash Magazine. Meanwhile, Huffington Post dubbed Harry one of the top performers at Bestival; he also featured with Moses Boyd on his BBC 1Xtra residency and supported Grammy nominee Meshell Ndegeocello.
Harry is a master of blending his eclectic range of influences; elements of Soul, Indie, African and Electronic Music are weaved into a rich tapestry of percussive rhythms, tasteful guitar work and deft poeticism. His music is a sonically adventurous experience, a complex and layered sound palette skilfully tied around his distinctive vocals.
Explaining the themes of his debut album, Harry says; “’Boundaries speaks of confronting the self and challenging its limitations, searching for a sense of home or trying to get back to the feeling of it [Harry’s childhood home was called Boundary farm]. It also alludes to the geographical crossroad of musical influence found on the record; from London to Lagos, Soweto to Chicago it’s all in there.”
Harry worked around the COVID restrictions by part-recording the album at home, then polishing in studio sessions ahead of the most recent lockdown.
