Naim Goes Deeper - Ambient

This month, we wanted to ease ourselves into the new year with English synthesist and creator of the ‘ambient’ genre, Brian Eno.

He is widely revered as one of the most innovative and influential recording artists in contemporary music with a background bursting with ability, from his art/glam rock group Roxy Music to producing and collaborating with some of the true greats from U2 to David Bowie...

Eno describes ambience as “an atmosphere, a tint...designed to induce calm and space to think”. He also talks about the characteristics and non-intrusive qualities saying that “it must be ignorable as it is interesting” although we struggle not to get swallowed into the vibrating and deep worlds, so well complimented by our Naim systems.

“an atmosphere, a tint...designed to induce calm and space to think”.

Eno’s pioneering of this timeless music genre have brought these obscure musical ideas into consciousness. Ambient, originally from the UK in the 1970’s had a revival towards the late 1980’s with the prominence of house and techno music but grew into having a cult following by the 1990’s. These recording techniques have influenced more than just music. - Meditation, relaxation and reflection, a lifestyle humans desire and need have also been impacted by ambience.

Take time out this new year to listen to our playlist celebrating the brilliance of the ambient genre on TIDAL and Spotify.
