Naim and TIDAL present: A Year in Music 2017

2017 hailed lots of exciting new music and we want to celebrate it. Hand-picked by Naim and our friends on Facebook, we have gone deeper with some of our favourites from the year.

The War On Drugs - Thinking Of A Place

From their 4th studio album, A Deeper Understanding, this epic 11 minute track  'reclaims and explores the extensive soundscape and vastness’ as their previous record, Lost in the Dream. Sounding so original and yet similarly familiar to the mid-80’s rock sound, the record somehow embraces something as romantic as it is obscure.

Yazz Ahmed - Al Emadi

Naim Records own, Yazz Ahmed has played with everyone from Lee Scratch Perry to Radiohead. The trumpeter has also successfully sewn together the middle East with a more classic jazz sound - ending up creating what sounds like an Arabic speaking Miles Davis. The elegant La Saboteuse reminds us why Yazz has such an impressive resume…

Man Duo - What If It Falls

Man Duo is the second coming of Jaakko Eino Kalevi and Long-Sam: cherished producers and good friends from Helsinki whose 2012 debut Amateurs de Vérité refracted outsider electronics through the prism of psychedelic folk. The pair came back this year with a new name and a new album, Orbit, that takes the exotic pop we’ve come to associate with both artists far beyond the dance-floor and out into the cosmos.
