Jockstrap - Hayley
Led by Georgia Ellery and Taylor Skye - the 20-year-old driving forces behind the band - Jockstrap met and formed at London’s Guildhall School of Music and Drama last year.
‘Hayley’, lead single off EP Love is the Key to the City - out on Kaya Kaya Records - underlines the signature Jockstrap sound perfectly: all elegant composition - full of luscious Hollywood strings, soft vocals and jazz-tinged melodies - cut jarringly and precisely with sharp bright synths, metallic beats and electronic noise. Think PC Music meets Paul Simon and Johnny Mandel.
Kadjha Bonet - Mother Maybe
‘Mother Maybe’ from Bonet’s debut album ‘Childqueen’ was released June 8, 2018 to critical acclaim. Following from the EP ‘The Visitor’, her music has been described as genre-defying - from folk to soul, jazz to psych - Also check the ‘Childqueen Outtakes’ EP which are the songs that were recorded during the ‘Childqueen’ sessions that Kadjha felt didn’t fit the record itself but deserved to have a life of their own.
Childish Gambino - This Is America
Award-winning writer, actor, singer and rapper Donald Glover aka Childish Gambino released ‘This Is America’ on May 5 2018 - the track and video dominated the internet with its provocative, politically charged nature and boasted the latest step in his illustrious and unconventional career. Glover is described as “one of the great performers in modern America,” and “This Is America” might be the most lyrically daring Hot 100 No. 1 in history. The Hiro Murai directed video - who has continuously worked with Gambino - received about 12.9 million views in 24 hours, and has over 460 million views as of January 2019 and is arguably the most talked about video of 2018.
